​Psychoanalytic Center

Established in 1945, The Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research is one of the nation’s leading centers for the study and practice of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. 

At the core of the Center’s mission is the training of psychiatrists and psychologist to develop their clinical skills. Programs include postgraduate training in adult, adolescent, and child psychoanalysisadult and child psychodynamic psychotherapytransference focused psychotherapy and parent-infant psychotherapy. The Center has a special interest in advancing the careers of young clinicians and scholars through our psychology externship and psychoanalytic fellowship.

Faculty and trainees at the Center are deeply engaged in advancing knowledge about psychoanalysis and psychotherapy through our robust research program. And of course, at the center of our work is the treatment of patients, whose applications for reduced fee psychoanalytic treatment are welcome.

As part of the Department of Psychiatry of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Center is an integral part of the scientific environment enriched by experts from the biological, psychological, and social sciences. Additionally, as part of Columbia University, the Center shares an academic tradition that promotes intellectual inquiry and exploration.
