This webinar illustrated how patient-oriented translational research advances clinical practice for OCD. First, Dr. Simpson reviewed the clinical presentation of OCD and our first-line treatments followed by a discussion of how clinical trials can be used to address clinically important and relevant questions, leading to practice guidelines and treatment algorithms. Dr. Simpson highlighted two urgent clinical problems and how research is addressing them.

IMPACT-OCD

IMPACT-OCD | Improving Providers’ Assessment, Care Delivery and Treatment of OCD

Improving Providers’ Assessment, Care Delivery and Treatment of OCD (IMPACT-OCD) is a workforce development program led by The Center for OCD and Related Disorders, The Center for Practice Innovations at Columbia Psychiatry, and the New York State Psychiatric Institute in collaboration with the New York State Office of Mental Health (NYS-OMH). The goal of this program is to improve clinician knowledge and skills in OCD care and raise awareness of OCD among clinicians, individuals with OCD and their families, and the general public.

E-Learning Courses

Continuing education credits are available to OMH, OASAS, New York State VA providers, or a provider in a not-for-profit clinic/agency about detecting and diagnosing OCD, exposure and response prevention therapy, pharmacological treatment of OCD, and how to differentiate OCD and schizophrenia-spectrum disorder.

This service gives clinicians working in OMH clinics the opportunity to receive expert feedback on the assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment of OCD from clinicians at the Center for OCD and Related Disorders.

    • Individuals and families will find educational materials about OCD for you and your loved ones, tools to use when seeking treatment, and access to a directory of treatment resources.

    • For behavioral health clinicians, you will find clinical assessments, clinical examples, an OCD treatment algorithm, and referral options for OCD-specific treatment.

  • Center for Youth Mental Health, New York Presbyterian Hospital
    The Youth Anxiety Center is a clinical and research collaboration of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Weill Cornell Medical College that aims to understand how anxiety affects youth and emerging adults as they transition out of the home into independent living, and when needed, to provide services to facilitate a successful transition to college or work and independent living.

      The CUCARD Westchester Anxiety Day Program provides daily, comprehensive treatment for children and adolescents whose lives are severely impaired by anxiety or OCD. Our evidence-based approach is designed to help youth better manage anxiety so they can get back to their daily lives as quickly as possible.

    ADAA is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety, depression, and related disorders and to improving the lives of all people who suffer from them. The ADAA offers a directory of clinicians who specialize in treating OCD and other related disorders.
  • Association for Behavioral & Cognitive Therapies (ABCT)
    The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies is a multidisciplinary organization committed to the advancement of scientific approaches to the understanding and improvement of human functioning through the investigation and application of behavioral, cognitive, and other evidence-based principles to the assessment, prevention, and treatment of human problems, and the enhancement of health and well-being. ABCT offers a directory of clinicians who specialize in treating OCD and other related disorders.

    Founded by a group of people with OCD in 1986, the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) is an international not-for-profit organization that encompasses both OCD NY & OCD NJ. This is an especially good resource for gaining global information on the most up-to-date research findings and advocacy news. The IOCDF offers a directory of clinicians who specialize in treating OCD.
