Overview
Hyun (Monica) Kim, PhD, MS, is an Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and a Research Scientist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. She conducts research as part of the Memory Disorders Center, housed within the Area Brain Aging and Mental Health.
Dr. Kim's research focuses on modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer's disease (AD), with particular emphasis on the role of sleep and related disorders in the progression of AD. She is the Principal Investigator of a Mentored Patient-Oriented Career Development Award (K23) funded by the National Institute on Aging. Through this award, she is conducting a clinical trial to examine the effects of nonpharmacological sleep interventions on neurocognitive outcomes and AD biomarkers.
Dr. Kim completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at UC San Diego, her master's degree in Biomedical Sciences (Neurobiology) at Korea University, and her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Boston University. She completed clinical internship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine and her postdoctoral training in late-life neuropsychiatric disorders at Columbia University. Dr. Kim is a licensed clinical psychologist in NY and NJ and is PSYPACT credentialed, specializing in cognitive-behavioral treatments for insomnia, depression, and anxiety disorders.
