Overview

Dr. Frances Shin is an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center. Her roles and responsibilities have included being a child and adolescent psychiatrist in the NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital pediatric psychiatry outpatient clinic; psychiatric lead of the Diagnostic Evaluation Stabilization Center (DESC); and supervisor to NewYork-Presbyterian Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) fellows in the DESC program, Immediate Treatment Clinic, the outpatient pediatric psychiatry clinic, and the RFK School Clinic rotation. She continues to work closely with the CAP training program through her role as Associate Director of Medical Education at New York City Children's Center (NYCCC).

Dr. Shin obtained her BA from the University of Pennsylvania and her medical degree from New York Medical College. She completed her general psychiatry residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She completed her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the NYPH Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Program of Columbia and Cornell Universities.

Dr. Shin has also worked with underserved youth as a child and adolescent psychiatrist in the Bronx clinics of Astor Services for Children and Families. Additionally, Dr. Shin’s interest in working with under-served communities has led to volunteer activities in the U.S. and in Ghana, Honduras, Mexico, and India. In 2009, Dr. Shin was selected as a National Health Service Corps Scholar. In 2014, she was awarded the Matthew S. T. Winer MD Award in Community Psychiatry. In 2016, she was awarded the Barbara Ann Liskin Award in Psychiatry.
