The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI) is launching a space for departmental members from historically marginalized racial/ethnic groups who would like to talk about experiences with race-based traumatic stress. Race-based traumatic stress is mental or emotional stress caused by encounters with overt forms of racism, racial/ethnic discrimination, or with other subtle but routine dehumanizing and exclusionary behaviors such as microaggressions. We have invited Dr. Alex L. Pieterse to facilitate these conversations. Dr. Pieterse is the Director of the Institute for the Study of Race and Culture at Boston College and an expert in race-based traumatic stress.
We invite you to join other NYSPI/Columbia Psychiatry departmental members for a small group discussion. These sessions will be capped at 15 participants each, will be held via zoom and will be an hour long. If you are interested, please select a date using the link below. Please register for only one session in order to accommodate as many people as possible.
