June 3, 2015- There are, of course, as many stories behind name changes as there are people who’ve changed them, but clinical psychologists who counsel transgender people say that there are a few common themes they tend to hear. “Most often, they have chosen a name a long time ago, and initially kept this very private,” said Dr. Walter Brockting, professor of medical psychology and co-director of the LGBT Health Initiative at Columbia University Medical Center.
